The Folk of the Air #1

The Cruel Prince

Holly Black

Naturally, I aspire to emulate them. As stunning as swords forged in heavenly fire. They have eternal life.

Furthermore, Cardan is much more exquisite than the others. I detest him the most out of all of them. Sometimes I can barely breathe when I look at him because I detest him so much.

Jude and her two sisters were abducted to live in the perilous High Court of Faerie when Jude was seven years old, following the murder of her parents. Even though Jude is dying, ten years later, all she wants is to fit in. However, a great number of fey hate humans. In particular, Prince Cardan, the High King’s youngest and most malevolent son.

She must oppose him and accept the penalties if she wants to be admitted to the Court.

Jude learns about her own propensity for cunning and violence as she gets more and more entangled in the palace’s schemes and deceptions. Jude will have to put her life in peril to form a risky alliance in order to preserve her sisters and Faerie itself, though, as treachery threatens to submerge the Courts of Faerie in bloodshed.
