Book Review: Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
I just put down Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, and man, I’m still wiping my eyes. This book, from 1997, is like a warm hug and a gut punch all at once. It’s about Mitch, a guy caught up in the rat race, who reconnects with his old college professor, Morrie, who’s dying of ALS. What follows is a series of Tuesday visits where Morrie drops life lessons that hit you right in the heart.
Morrie’s this wise, kind soul who talks about love, forgiveness, and what really matters when you know your time’s running out. I was reading this on a bus one day, and there’s this part where Morrie says, “The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.” I had to close the book and stare out the window for a bit, thinking about my own family and how I don’t call them enough. It’s that kind of book—it makes you pause and take stock of your life.
What I loved is how simple it feels. Mitch isn’t trying to write some fancy novel; he’s just telling it like it was, with Morrie’s words shining through. Every chapter’s like a little nugget of wisdom, but it never feels preachy. It’s like Morrie’s sitting there with you, sipping tea, saying, “Kid, don’t sweat the small stuff.” That said, it can get heavy. Reading about Morrie’s body failing him while his spirit stays so strong? That had me choking up more than once.
This isn’t a long book, but it’s one you’ll carry with you. I found myself jotting down quotes on a sticky note—like when Morrie talks about forgiving yourself and others before it’s too late. I stuck it on my fridge as a reminder. Tuesdays with Morrie is like a wake-up call to live better, love harder, and not let life slip by.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Recommendation: Grab this if you want a quick read that’ll make you think and maybe cry a little. Perfect for anyone who’s feeling stuck or just needs a reminder about what’s important. Keep some tissues handy and maybe call someone you love after you finish.Show in sidebar
